These pieces focus on the flute choir’s ability to emulate the sound of the calliope, a steam organ often found in carnival settings or on old riverboats. The composition consists of five character movements, each invoking the spirit of a quirky carnival. Carnival Pieces was the winner of the 2013 NFA Flute Choir Composition Competition.
