Gresner was active between 1744 and 1789 and founded his workshop in Dresden. He went on to become one of the most famous wind instrument builders of the eighteenth century. C. A. Grenser’s original flute is in the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg (Dresden c. 1775). It is made of boxwood with artificial ivory rings and silver key. Its body has 7 parts in addition to a foot register.
The Grenser flutes works with a wide range of tunings: the most common used today are A = 415, 430 and 440.
All of the late 18th century repertoire including that of Carl P. E. Bach, Haydn, and Mozart can be played on this flute.
